Note: All of the covers you see in this post are the covers of the books I read, so it might be different than what you see.

Hello, welcome back! Today, I have seven books that I have finished from the last time I did…a…post. Normally, I would have way more done, but… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Life happened. And I’m a little lazy. The first two books that I’m going to talk about, I don’t have because I borrowed them from the library. I had to return them and I read those a while ago. I’ve mentioned them in my previous posts as well.

Lang at the speed of sightThe first one is Language at the Speed of Sight: How We Read, Why So Many Can’t, and What We Can Do About It. It’s definitely a good book, however… It feels more aimed at academics or teachers. It’s not for the everyday, casual reader so… If you have a passion for language, and really love heavy, dense science, read this book. It’s certainly good, but I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. I would just suggest you look it up yourself, because I feel like I can’t really explain it well, so do that.

The second book is Liberty and Coercion: The Paradox of American Government From the Founding to the Present. It is actually good. It’s really good. It talks about how the American People have always wanted freedom. They don’t want to be told what to do by the government. But at the same time, they want the government to enforce others to do things. It’s really interesting. It talks about how that want was right there from the beginning, the founding of American government. And continues to now! It is interesting, so if you really like politics and that kind of stuff, this is a good read.

I don’t even know how many times I’ve read this book. I do have the second book, A Swiftly Tilting Planet. It’s on the shelves, and I have read it before but I haven’t re-read it recently. If you don’t know what this book is, who are you and where have you been? Read it! Okay. For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, here’s the description from the back of my copy. A scientist has vanished. Now an eerie midnight visitor leads three children in search of him — though a wrinkle in time, to the deadly unknown terrors beyond the tesseract! Chilling science fiction! If you like sci-fi, you’ll likely enjoy this one. I am SO excited for the movie re-make! They just announced it, AHH! It looks like it’s going to be SO GOOD and I’m excited about it for several reasons. The movie will be able to really show the world, unlike the 2003 version, because the technology just didn’t exist back then. There are a lot of people of color in it. A lot of women. A+. The director is a woman of color! For Mrs Who, Mrs Whatsit, and Mrs Which — two of them are women of color. There are scenes where they didn’t HAVE to be diverse, but they were! Fantastic. I am ready. I don’t think you understand how excited I am for this!

I wasn’t expecting to like it, but it is actually pretty good. It’s apparently a series. And…please don’t let the cover on GoodReads deceive you. I was really disappointed in it. The cover on GoodReads makes it look like one of those… Dare I say this? Trashy romance novels. Now. There is nothing wrong with a good trashy book every once in a while. But! You get what kind of book I’m talking about. Go look yourself (or look up the 2000 movie, I discovered that this cover is actually from the movie, not the book while trying to find a picture of the copy I have). It’s about a woman who has a gift of being able to see people’s secrets, and she opens up a chocolate shop in a small town that’s strongly controlled by a priest and the church. I don’t want to tell you too much of this book because it’s really good and I think you really should read it. The writing style is different, but it’s really good. Image result for the tide kingThe next book that I read… I don’t have a physical book, and I also will not be giving you my review because I did it for Chanticleer, the website I did a book review for before. The book I read was The Tide King. It’s…interesting. I will link that review when it’s posted, I will link that below. Moving on! The books from now on are all my own. Some are used, some are new. The next book is Honour Among ThievesRelated imageIt kind of bothers me that often now, the author names are bigger than the title. Why? Why do you do that? You confuse people! Stop! Especially if the title of the book is the name of a person. Why? ANYWAY. This book is…hm. It’s set in 1993. The year I was born! And basically, it’s about a group of criminals who got hired to steal the Declaration of Independence. If you want action, adventure, spies, that’s the book for you. Next! I was disappointed in this one. A Wanted Man – A Jack Reacher Novel.Image result for a wanted man jack reacher You probably recognize this name because of the recent movies with Tom Cruise. I’m sorry, but Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher? Mmm no. His appearance doesn’t match what’s described in the books. But also, disclaimer, I’ve never seen one of those movies so… I’ve read Jack Reacher books before, and I do like the series, but not this one. This book is basically an action novel and I expected action to start kind of early with Jack Reacher. It should happen around maybe third-ways through the book, maybe earlier. But this, it felt like it didn’t really happen until halfway, or more. So… Eh.

The book I’m currently reading is Hidden Figures. I haven’t seen the movie yet, I want to finish reading this before I watch the movie. I bought this book a while ago, like November, I think? Something like that. And yeah, finally getting around to reading it now. (Whoops.) I have a whole stack of books that I got a while ago that I think I’ve shown on camera. I still haven’t even read them! So I’m finally getting around to them. That’s because I forced myself to stop getting books from the library until I actually read what I have. And um, speaking of not getting books from the library so I can actually read what I already have. I bought five more like, last week. Those books cost $15 altogether sooooo hey, good deal! What happened is that the local used bookstore that I got these from had a going-out-of-business sale. I thought about it and decided to go ahead and go in, see if I can find anything. And good thing I did! I thought they weren’t closing until July 31st. Oh boy, was I wrong. Something like three days after I went, they closed down and were completely empty except for the bookshelves. So, good thing I decided to go in! But there is another used bookstore just down the street, so we’re good to go on that front.

I’m hoping to do my next BookTube video a little sooner than this, because I’m starting to feel like I’m doing it only every two months. I would like to try and do it at least once a month with more books than just…you know. And hopefully that’ll motivate me to read more? If there’s any book recommendations that you have, leave them in the comments below. Yeah, I am fully aware I don’t really need more because my TBR (To Be Read) list is growing. It grows every day. Every day. At this rate, I’ll never finish reading. But hey, that’s the life of a book lover.
