Another book tag!
Hello and welcome to the Library 411 tag. I was kind of tagged by Kathy to do this, and yes. You know how much I love libraries. I’ve been posting a lot on my Instagram story and Twitter about a certain situation recently. (Hint hint.) If you look carefully, you can see books in the corner of the frame. That’s all of the physical library books I have right now, I have two ebooks in addition to that. I have a stack of nine books I have to finish in the next week and half. Heh. We’ll see how I do. Back to the point! This tag kind of aims to help people know what resources libraries have, and you’d be surprised at how much libraries provide. I’m going to try and not take too long with this, so I’m just going to get going.
Information Desk: A book that was helpful to you, for any reason. I picked two books. One is The ABCs of LGBT+, it was written by Ash Hardell. Their name is different on this, but that’s not for here. And the second one is A Guide to Gender, second edition. Funnily enough, one of the bookmarks in ABCs is in the Gender section. So. I put them down so it’d be easier for me to sign. A Guide to Gender is really more of an introductory book for those who just came into the queer community, or know nothing about gender. If you’re somewhat knowledgeable, it’s not a lot of new information. But ABCs of LGBT+ has a LOT of terms that made me repeatedly say, “That’s new to me.” So it’s great. I refer to it every once in a while, it’s great.
The Return Bin: What are two books you read and immediately wanted to return (because you disliked) or a recent DNF. The first one that came to mind was The Riddle of Gender. I did NOT like this book. It’s… *cringes* It was written by a cis straight white woman, I’m assuming. I’m assuming on the white part. But… I really didn’t like it. And the second one, At the Broken Places. Now, I didn’t like half of this book, I liked half of it. Do what you will with that.
Holds Section: Your most anticipated release, which you can’t wait to get your hands on? Okay. I’ve been adding a lot of books to my holds section recently, so… That has been causing me problems, because like you saw with my stack… I got those, then a hold popped up that I wasn’t expecting for another week or so. And I’m ready for that book, Reign of the Fallen. Yes. And then I JUST checked my account today just to check on when books were due, whatever. And I found out that I have a hold waiting for me at the library, Children of Blood and Bone. I am ready. I wasn’t expecting this for a while, but yes. I’m ready.
Community Classes & Study Rooms: A book you loved that was a school assignment. Fahrenheit 451, that’s an easy answer. I immediately fell in love with this book, and I still love it. So I probably should get my own copy, because I don’t mind rereading it.
Computers: A modern classic you love, or favorite sci-fi. Okay, I just finished it, and this is my new favorite, I think. You can barely see it right here, but it’s The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. Yes. I already have the second book, A Closed and Common Orbit, on the top of that big stack. I can’t wait to read it!
DVD Rentals: Your most anticipated, or favorite in recent history, book-to-move or book-to-tv adaptation OR! a book that felt cinematic or a book you wish would be adapted into a movie or TV series. I would give the same answer as the previous question, The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet, because I think it would be fantastic as a TV show, and just beautiful. But to give a different answer, I will say Love, Simon. I haven’t read the book or seen the movie, but I fully intend to see it and read it.
Library Book Store/Sale: A random book you picked up (w/o knowing anything about) and really enjoyed, or show off your fav bookish merch! Well. I usually will at least glance at the synopsis before buying a book, but… Let’s not do that. [shows shirt, it has a quote: When in doubt, go to the library. – Hermione Granger.]
Teen/Youth Room: Favorite YA or favorite book you read as a kid. OR: A book you can’t wait to share with kids in your future. I read a good amount of YA, so I’m not going to pick that. But a book that I’m excited, I WILL share with kids in my future: The Boxcar Children, and Magic Treehouse. Oh, I LOVED those series growing up. Kids in my future better.
Museum Tickets: A book that made you feel a bit more cultured upon completing it. My slightly silly answer, A Visual Guide to Drink. But also kind of serious, because this has a lot of history about how beer, wine, hard liquor was made. It’s really cool. A more serious answer, Lost in Translation. I love this book. Love it.
Overdrive/Hoopla: An audio book you love. Once again, hmm. But instead of an audiobook, I’ll tell you an Overdrive ebook that I just finished, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. YES. READ IT.
Request a Purchase: A lesser known book that you want more people to know about and read. I would say Arabella of Mars. I just requested (a hold) for the second book, The Battle of Venus. I’m ready.
Librarians: A character who loved helping others. I don’t know if this is the best answer, but it’s the best one I can think of right now. Cress from The Lunar Chronicles. She is adorable.
Sanctuary: A book that is like home to you. Calvin and Hobbes. I grew up reading these, my dad always reads them. Yes. I was actually sent one of the volumes while I was in college, so that was a little piece of home, which was nice. That’s it for this tag. If you want to do this, go ahead!
