Today, you find out what books I hope to finish in a week!
Hello and welcome to my TBR for the Queer Lit Readathon that Kathy and I co-host, with Adriana joining us for this round. (Go here for full details.) I hope to read five, maybe seven books. I’ll explain the extra two as we go. Before I do that, I want to let you know we will be posting on our socials a loose schedule for chats and reading sprints. You can join in and read along with us! Let’s get into the books, shall we? Of course, there will be some overlap in the challenges so I may not say all of the challenges that the book does cover, but I will say the ones I picked the book for.
Peter Darling. It’s one of the books on the list for Group Read picks, it ended up not being picked. But I will be ordering this one, because I have a strong feeling that I’ll love it and want to own it. It’s basically a Peter Pan re-telling and it covers the following challenges: Trans Main Character. #ownvoices. New author (to me). 5 Star Prediction. ??? – choose your own category: I decided to choose Literary Re-telling.
Queer: A Graphic History. I got this recently at Powell’s because I was drooling over it the last time I went, so I bought it recently. I say that this covers Graphic Novel, but I don’t know, that’s a weird line because the book has some paragraph text along with illustrations. So it’s not fully a graphic novel, but it kind of is? I might get another graphic novel to read in this anyway, so we’ll see. It also covers See Yourself, duh. And Not Your Usual Genre. I do like to read graphic novels, I just don’t read them often, and it doesn’t help that my libraries have fairly limited choices in graphic novels.
This is Kind of an Epic Love Story. Another recent purchase from Powell’s, sliiiiightly an impulse buy but I’ve seen a lot of things, people saying good things about it so I’m excited for that. It’ll cover the following challenges: New author. POC author. #ownvoices. Disabled Main Character, apparently Oliver, one of the main characters, is HH (Hard of Hearing) and we have sign in this book, so there you go!
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. I’ll be getting this one from my library, I just hope they still have it when I go. The same thing applies to all the other books I will be getting from the library. It covers the Historical Fiction category. I’m considering getting the second book, The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, at the same time. If I have time during the week and read this, it’ll hit Historical Fiction and an Ace Main Character.
Fire Song. I hope to get this from the library, and it’ll cover the Indigenous Main Character category.
Girls of Paper and Fire is the Group Read, and my library has it on order. I immediately put a hold on it and I am first in line. So… I don’t know if I’ll get it in time for the readathon. Fingers crossed!
If I read five books, I will have hit 12 out of 16 challenges. If I do read seven books, I meet 14 out of 16 challenges. The two I didn’t cover are Middle Grade and Translated.
