Frustrations with Podcasts

Hello and welcome. As you already saw from the title today, I want to talk about podcasts and my frustrations with them. If you listen to podcasts, you obviously know there’s a lot of really good ones out there. A couple of podcasts that I would love to be able to know what happens: The Penumbra Podcast, and Welcome to Night Vale. I can’t think of others right now, but those are just two that I would like to know about. Yes, I know they have transcripts, but that’s my problem with them.

They have transcripts, yes, but that requires me to go and dig for the transcripts. The way you access transcripts for any podcast you name varies so much, it’s annoying. For example, WtNV. I believe you can access it through their…where they upload their podcast, but it’s also on their website, I think. The Penumbra Podcast, as far as I know, you can access it only on their website. It varies. Sometimes it’s through their upload platform, sometimes through their website only, sometimes both. There’s no consistent way to access transcripts. So if I want to do that, I have to know which way. I have to do extra work to be able to access that information, and eh. That’s one of my biggest frustrations with podcasts. Yes, they have transcripts, but… It’s still not really accessible.

Also, reading a transcript can sometimes be like reading a play script. That doesn’t exactly make for good, enjoyable reading. I know some podcasts, like WtNV, have a book version too. I still haven’t read the book version, but that’s one thing that’s a little different than a standard podcast. But do podcasts in general make books? No. I’m just frustrated that there’s so many good quality podcasts out there, but… *sigh* They’re just not deaf friendly.

Yeah, I just wanted to get a post up today. And this is something that’s been bothering me for a while. It’s just not… Podcasts are great. But just not very accessible, and not deaf friendly. Not really. I guess that’s it for today.
